This is what students are being taught by
Right Choices of West Tennessee:
6th Grade
Sixth graders are introduced to the physical and emotional stages of male
and female puberty to prepare them for future roles as equally
valued partners in the marital relationship. Vocabulary word
games emphasize key concepts of abstinence, communication,
commitment, trust, respect, and marriage. Interactive role-play
examines the dynamics of peer pressure and teaches standard
setting as well as refusal skills. Also included is an
introduction to sexually transmitted diseases. |
7th Grade
An exercise in setting long-range goals also teaches that achieving goals is
a step-by-step process—the sum of responsible daily decisions.
Conversely, failure to succeed is also a gradual process of
moving away from dreams. Students examine the power of media
influence on the culture and ultimately their decisions. They
are challenged to set high standards for their lives and their
future dates and mates. Seventh graders learn the origins of
marriage traditions and their relevance for today. |
8th Grade
Students identify some emotional and physical consequences (i.e., sexually
transmitted diseases) of premarital sex. They examine the
important differences between human and animal sexuality. Students
examine ways the decisions of others can affect them and how
their actions also affect others. They learn how to establish
and maintain personal dating standards. |
High School
Students examine the differences between healthy and abusive relationships
and receive practical advice on setting high standards. A lesson
on gender similarities and differences is designed to enhance
honest communication between the sexes and each partner’s role
in the goal of saving sex for marriage. Students identify the
progressive and addictive nature of sex, the risks of sexually
transmitted diseases, and the influence of peer and media
pressure. The concept of “secondary virginity” offers a way to
begin again, and it is coupled with practical application of refusal skills.
